Kashmir University under its ‘Go Green’ initiative has initiated free bicycle facility for students in its campus here.

The move has been made following ban on entry of students’ vehicles in the campus.  The varsity has started with 100 cycles at its three main gates.

Dozens of bicycles have been parked at main gates of the campus and students can these after their proper identification.

Earlier students were irked as the varsity had banned vehicle of their vehicles in the campus. The students were forced to travel on foot to and fro their respective departments in the campus. To support the KU’s ‘Go Green initiative, J&K bank has extended support under its corporate social responsibility by donating bicycles for in-campus travel of the students.

“After varsity authorities banned entry of our vehicles, it was inconvenient for us to commute as many departments are at long distance from main gate. We also have to navigate from one department to other during lectures. This initiative is eco-friendly and will also promote good health”, said Sheikh Arash, a journalism student.

Chief Proctor Kashmir University, Naseer Iqbal said that in campus cycle facility is part of varsity’s  ‘Go Green’ initiative.

“Many students has complained of inconvenience during in campus commute. We have introduced these cycles which students can avail whenever they require. We have received an overwhelming response from our students. Cycling is good for health and economic mode of transport,” he added. “If the response of students remains same, we will introduce more cycles in next phases so that all students can avail the facility,” he added.
