Residents of Nadir Gund locality of Hyderpora today staged protest against lack of civic amenities in the area,

The aggrieved residents said the locality lacks drainage system and macadamized roads, besides other civic amenities like street lights and dustbins. To protest against what they termed as “official apathy”, the residents of Nadir Gund blocked Peerbagh road- disrupting vehicular movement to and fro Srinagar Airport.

Residents complained that despite being close to airport and surrounded by posh localities, the area lacks basic amenities.

Meharaj-ud-din Bhat, a local said “due to poor drainage and dilapidated roads, we feel that we belong to some far-flung area,” Bhat said. He said that new colonies surrounding Nadir Gund are being provided all facilities including drainage system, streetlights, macadamized lanes and dust bins.

“Ironically, drainage of these colonies is pumped into our locality. Our area has been totally neglected. Water logging creates flood like situation in our area,” said another resident Abdul Majeed. He said that lack of basic facilities have forced some of the inhabitants to sell their properties and move out to other localities.
