'12 shopkeepers arrested for defying lockdown orders'

Police on Tuesday said it arrested 12 shopkeepers from here for defying lockdown imposed in view of the coronavirus pandemic.

A statement said a case (FIR No. 22/2020) has been registered at police station Rainawari and further investigation into the case initiated.

The police have requested people to follow the restrictions imposed by government in order to prevent the spread of coronavirus. “Those who are violating the restrictions will be dealt strictly,” said the statement.

Ever since the 21-day lockdown was announced by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi last month the police have arrested several people and shopkeepers for defying the prohibitory orders. Both police and civil administration have been urging people to stay home and follow the health advisories to prevent spread of COVID-19 in Jammu and Kashmir
