17 persons arrested for defying lockdown orders: Police

Police on Saturday said it arrested 17 persons for defying the lockdown orders from different parts of the summer capital Srinagar.

A statement said the persons were arrested from thejurisdiction of police station Sadder for violating the orders, asking peopleto stay indoors to prevent spread of coronavirus in the city.

   

The statement said cases under relevant sections of law havebeen registered in the police station Sader and further investigations havebeen taken up.

“Police once again requested the general public to followthe restrictions imposed by the government in order to prevent the spread ofCOVID19. Those who are violating the restriction orders will be dealtstrictly,” said the statement.

The district is under the government-mandated lockdown aspart of the country wide measure to fight the coronavirus pandemic. Thedistrict has reported 78 COVID19 cases, the highest across Jammu and Kashmir.
