180 illegal structures demolished in 6 months: SMC

Srinagar municipal corporation has demolished 180 illegal structures in various areas of the summer capital in last six months.

Officials said the anti-encroachment wing of SMC demolished 180 illegal structures and booked the violators under the Municipal Corporation Act 2000.

SMC received 122 complaints from general public regarding illegal constructions. Officials said 104 complaints were disposed off under the norms while 18 are under investigation.

Officials said SMC recently sealed a commercial structure at Gogjibagh here, which they said had violated sanctioned building permission issued in its favour. A team of SMC officials led by chief enforcement officer, Muhammad Akbar Sofi, had found that the building at Gogjibagh had come up in violation of building permission

“He had to keep ground floor for parking as per the permission granted for the construction of this building. But the ground floor was used for other purposes other than the parking. It was turned into utility by having kitchen, dining, office accommodation and other sanitary facilities there,” Sofi said.

He added that in compliance of the orders of High Court, sealing of this building under J&K Municipal Corporation Building Byelaws 2011 was done for violating sanctioned plan and not keeping the provision of parking facility within the building.
