2nd phase of Jehangir Chowk-Rambagh flyover to be inaugurated today

The second phase of the Jehangir Chowk-Rambagh flyover will be thrown open for vehicular traffic on Wednesday.

Officials said the flyover stretch will be thrown open byGovernor Satya Pal Malik.

   

The second phase of the flyover stretching from Rambagh toAlochi Bagh has been constructed at a cost of Rs 37.5 crore. Officials said thestretch will provide substantial relief to commuters traveling towards LalChowk. “The Governor administration has made construction and completionof the flyover amongst its main developmental concerns in the Srinagar city.The project is seen as a significant remedy to traffic congestion. Districtadministration Srinagar has been at the forefront of efforts to speed up theconstruction of the flyover project having been regularly monitoringconstruction work and redressing related concerns,” an official statementsaid.

Officials said the third and last phase of the flyover isexpected to be completed by June end. Once completed, the 2.4 kilometre flyoverwith six access ramps – including at Jehangir Chowk, Gogji Bagh, Alochi Bagh,Rambagh, Natipora and Barzulla – will substantially decongest city traffic andreduce travel time between Jehangir Chowk and Rambagh from about 45 minutes asit takes now to about 2.5 minutes.
