4 days on, snow mounds yet to be cleared from footpaths, roadsides

Despite passing of four days, authorities are yet to remove snow mounds from footpaths and roadsides in various areas of the summer capital causing inconvenience to pedestrians. 

From Hazaratbal to city centre Lal Chowk, huge mounds of snow are dumped on footpaths and roadsides at Nigeen, Kathidarwaza, Malkha, Babadem, Barbarshah. 

   

“We already have narrow roads and snow mounds on roadsides poses risk of accidents,” said Mushtaq Ahmad, a sumo driver.

The snow from the footpaths of Residency Road and Regal Chowk is yet to be cleared.

“Melting snow mounds here keep oozing water throughout the day which makes surroundings moist and slippery.  Snow mounds in front of shops has affected our business,” said a shopkeeper at Regal Chowk.

“The water oozing from the snow mounds have made cesspools in front of our shops which is very irritating”, He said.

SMC commissioner Peerzada Hafizullah Shah said he will look into the matter. 

“We were prompt to clear snow from roads. For the first time we did not have problem of water logging. Still I will send my men to these areas and ensure that snow will be cleared,” he added.
