After Srinagar Mayor’s tweet, Div Com says Chief Secretary will decide closure of schools

The divisional commissioner Kashmir Baseer Khan on Wednesdaysaid the educational institutions will be closed only after getting directionsfrom the government.

His statement comes inwake of the directive issued by Srinagar Mayor, Junaid Mattu, in which he hascalled for closing educational institutions and private tuition centres whichfall under jurisdiction of Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) from tomorrow.

   

“Under a special set ofstatutory provisions, SMC has ordered closure of all educational institutions,public clubs, sports clubs, indoor and open stadiums, coaching centers withinSrinagar City Limits till further orders. The order within SMC limits takeseffect from tomorrow,” Mattu said in a tweet.

However, the divisionalcommissioner said the Mayor has only suggested the closure of the schools. “Butthere has to be an administrative decision for it. There has to be a governmentorder,” Khan told Greater Kashmir.

He said the suggestionsput forth by SMC Mayor will be discussed in a meeting convened by the ChiefSecretary. “It is for the Chief Secretary to decide and nobody can take adecision on it. We are here to implement orders from the government,” Khansaid.
