Ahead of LS polls, govt bans sale of liquor in Srinagar

District Magistrate Srinagar Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary Tuesday issued two orders banning sale of liquor in the district and political activities around designated polling stations in the district.

The order banning the sale of liquor across the jurisdictionof the Srinagar district comes into effect from 6 pm today and will be validuntil 10 am April 19.

   

In a separate order, DM said political activities of allkinds and setting up of political offices of all sorts around designatedpolling stations have been barred with the former being applicable within theradius of 200 meters and the latter within that of 500 meters around designatedpolling stations.

“The twin orders are aimed at ensuring smooth conductof elections to the Srinagar Parliamentary Constituency which goes to pollsthis Thursday,” an official statement said.
