Amid chaos, security forces enter various educational institutions in Srinagar

Security forces have entered various colleges in Srinagar as part of law and order duties.

Officials said around 200 personnel of paramilitary forcesare camping at NIT Srinagar post evacuation of students.

   

“We received directions to provide accommodation to thesecurity forces so we have adjusted them in a common hall,” an official at NITsaid wishing anonymity. “Everything is being done on verbal directions ofhigher ups,” he said.

An official said the security forces have been also accommodatedin Amar Singh Club, Polytechnic Institute, Institute of Hotel Management,besides three degree colleges.

“Additional companies were also accommodated in SDA buildingand other dozens of locations in Srinagar,” the official said.

Amid the prevailing uncertainty in valley, parents ofstudents putting up at Kashmir University hostels are worried about theirwards.

“While IUST and NIT authorities have evacuated students, theKU authorities are indecisive about it which has created panic among parents.They should send back students to their homes has not taken any decision,”they said.                               

Meanwhile, a source at KU said the female boarders in KUhostels are leaving for their homes fearing uncertainty.

“The girls are leaving of their own. They have beenunofficially asked to leave for home for their safety, but nothing has beendecided officially,” the source said. He said around 40 percent students haveleft from hostels.

Registrar KU  saidthey have not asked the students to stay in hostels or leave for their homes.”We have not decided anything officially,” he said.

A top official in KU however said the varsity had planned toannounce summer vacation from August 9 but the official announcement was notmade yet. “The dates were fixed keeping in view the Eid festival and I-Day,” hesaid.

The parents of students enrolled in SKUAST (K) have alsoappealed the varsity administration to send back students to their homeskeeping in view their safety.

Vice chancellor SKUAST (K) however said the hostels arelocated inside varsity premises and there were no issues of insecurity.

Meanwhile, the authorities at Islamic University of Scienceand Technology (IUST) on Sunday evacuated all the boarders from varsityhostels. The varsity administration also postponed the ongoing exams up toAugust 9.
