Amid lockdown, food grains delivered to 90,000 households in Srinagar

Around 90,000 households have been delivered food grains at their doorsteps in Srinagar since distribution of the PDS ration was started last week in the district.

Distribution has been completed in 22 zones and was inprogress in the remaining 12 zones where it was started Saturday and will becompleted on Tuesday.

   

In the 22 zones some 80,000 households home-delivered foodgrains. The details of food grains include over 60,000 of rice and over 2500quintals of wheat.

In the remaining 12 zones where distribution was in progressright now some 10,000 households have been home-delivered food grains in twodays.

The zones where distribution was in progress and willcontinue till Tuesday include Lawaypora, Bemina, Khanyar, Barbarshah, Drugjen,Batwara, Khanmoh, Gawkadal, Habbakadal, Zainakadal, Patthar Masjid andQamarwari.

The total amount of food grains distributed amongst 90,000households as has been done so far include around 71,000 quintals —68000quintals rice and over 3000 quintals wheat.

Besides food grains, the administration was alsodistributing LPG refills amongst residents across the district.

Since March 28 when distribution was started afterimposition of restrictions some 50,000 households in areas across the districthave been delivered LPG refills at their doorsteps.

Hindustan Petroleum with a larger customer base than bothIndian Oil and Bharat Petroleum has made bulk of these deliveries. It should benoted that the roster as per which these companies are distributing LPG refillsamongst their consumers will continue until restrictions as enforced in the districtremain.

Residents of the district are being provided both foodgrains and LPG refills at their doorsteps in view of restrictions on publicmovement put in place in the district in an effort to contain spread of theCOVID-19 disease.

Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Shahid Iqbal Choudhary saidthe distribution of food grains and LPG was being made as per a comprehensiveplan to ensure each of over 2.6 lakh households gets its quota without havingto move out of their homes.

He urged residents to stay home and assured them that bothfood grains and LPG will be delivered to them at their doorsteps.

He said a second round of food grains distribution will bemade wherever required in the district in order to cover those who might havemissed this round.

The administration has also put in place a mechanism underwhich residents without ration cards can also get food grains at theirdoorsteps.

Sajad Qadri who has been appointed as OSD at the DC officeand has been designated as nodal officer for public distribution of essentialcommodities said that non-ration card holders can contact dedicated help-linesat 9018249426 and 8825010324 to place their demands for food grains, addingthat callers can rest assured that they will get them as ordered.
