Amid rains, LAWDA monitoring water level in Dal lake

Lakes and Waterways Development Authority on Saturday said it was monitoring the rising water level in Dal Lake amid the incessant rainfall.

“Due to continuous rains, the water level of Dal Lake asmeasured at Dal lock gate was found to have risen above 10 feet, above fiveinches from normal level,” said a statement. “The Vice Chairman along withengineers concerned visited all the gates on and directed to open all the gatesin order to maintain the desired level.”

   

The statement saidaccordingly, all the gates at Gow Kadal, Brari Numbal and Nallah Amir Khan wereopened.

“However, Ram Munshi Bagh gate couldn’t be opened as thewater level at Jehlum was found to be higher than Tsunti Khul water level,”said the statement, adding Dal dwellers had also represented for opening thegates so that the vegetable crop within the lake do not submerge.

“By opening these gates, the water has started receding. TheDal dwellers have appreciated the efforts of Lakes and Waterways DevelopmentAuthority for this endeavor and thanked the Vice Chairman for his personalintervention in the matter,” said the statement.
