Authorities hold awareness camp on mental health

The Srinagar administration in collaboration with theIntegrated Child Protection Scheme and non-profit organisation Ittifaaq Sundayorganised a mental health awareness programme at Nigeen Club here.

The awareness programme was part of larger efforts of thedistrict administration aimed at enhancing understanding through discussingmental health and issues around it. It was also aimed at prompting those withmental health issues to seek help.

   

Deputy Commissioner Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary lauded thenonprofit organisation Ittifaaq for its mental health awareness initiativeBeadaarr which completed one year today since its inception.

He said mental health is among the most underestimated andneglected realities of life and that those suffering from mental health issuesare among the most stigmatised people even in this day in age.

He said Beadaarr is a need-of-the-hour initiative and thatthe organisation and the people associated with it must be commended for thisbrilliant initiative.

Additional Deputy Commissioner KK Sidha who is also theProgramme Officer ICPS also commended the nonprofit organisation lauding itshead Nida Rehman for what he described as a wonderful initiative.

He said the district administration appreciates the effortsof the organisation and is there to support it in this important initiative.

The organisation has previously been involved in severalwell-recognised initiatives including its Gaash initiative helping out thetransporter community during the 2016 turmoil and another initiative prior toit helping those affected in the 2014 floods.
