Authorities recover subsidised rice re-packaged for sale in open market

Authorities recovered cache of subsidized rice meant for sale at government fair price stores during a raid at  house at Kralkhud area in the old city where

Officials said the subsidised rice was repackaged into bags of popular rice brands.

   

“The raid was carried out after a tip-off about thefraudulent dealing. Executive magistrate M A Shah conducted the raid aftergetting a search warrant recovering a cache of subsidised rice being repackagedat the site. The culprits were arrested and an investigation into the matterhas been initiated,” an official statement said.

District Magistrate Srinagar Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, whohas directed for a sustained campaign against unlawful business dealingsincluding food adulteration and profiteering in the district said the culpritswill be given due punishments.

“Official involvement in the illegal dealing is alsobeing investigated,” the DC said. The raid was in pursuance of ongoingefforts of the district administration to check unlawful food business dealingsin the district, the statement said.
