Baghat youth's mysterious death in Delhi | Family alleges murder, demands probe

The family of youth who died mysteriously in Delhi have alleged that he was murdered and demanded investigation into the incident.

27-year-old youth identified as from Aqif Rashid Bhat son of Abdul Rashid Bhat of Baghat area here, according to family was found hanging under mysterious circumstances at his apartment in New Delhi on Tuesday.

They said Aqif was putting up at the apartment in Delhi along with his roommate from Mumbai, who was currently on leave.

“Aqif was found hanging inside his apartment by one of his acquaintances at around 8 pm on Tuesday.  Later he contacted our relatives who are currently putting up in New Delhi. A conspiracy has been hatched to murder my son at New Delhi by some people,” Bhat said. He appealed the Delhi Police Commissioner and Kashmir police to look into the matter and investigate the case thoroughly.

Aqif’s cousin, Irshad Ahmad Bhat, who was among the family members, who brought Aqif’s body from Delhi to Srinagar on Wednesday, said “he bore injury marks on his face and arm making the family suspect a murder.”

“At least two persons familiar with the circumstances around Aqif’s death are still absconding with the police yet to trace them,” he said.

Meanwhile, Kashmir police said they have established contact with their counterparts in Delhi and investigations into the incident have been taken up.
