J&K High Court Bar Association Srinagar on Saturday held a protest march at Saddar Court here to condemn the attacks on Kashmiris in Jammu and outside.
The Association appealed to United Nations, Amnesty International and different international human right bodies and members of Indian civil society to come to rescue of people of Kashmir.
“If harassing, abusing, beating and teasing of Kashmiri and members of a particular community is not stopped forthwith it will have serious repercussions,” said Muhammad Ashraf Bhat, general secretary of the Association.
In order to show solidarity with their Kashmiri brethren, the Association decided to support Kashmir Bandh call given by Kashmir Traders Federation, for 17 February.
During the protest march, the lawyers raised slogans against communal and fanatic forces. They asked authorities to give protection to Kashmiri Muslims, who are presently in Jammu or in any other part of India and ensure their safety and security.
Earlier, during executive meeting of the Association, it was said that Kashmiris and locals living in Jammu were “so much frightened that stayed back in their homes on Friday and did not offer prayers to avoid being targeted”.
Quoting news report, the executive body said that at several places, the government-owned residential quarters, in which Kashmiri government employees are putting up, were stoned by “hooligans belonging to RSS and fanatic groups”.
“The police did not stop them and watched as mute spectators, which is highly deplorable,” they said. The executive body also discussed incidents of harassment to Kashmiris in other states.
“In Bihar, Dehradun, Chandigarh, Aligarh and other parts of India, Kashmiri students have been beaten to pulp and asked to leave those places forthwith. It is barbaric and shameful,” they said.
