Witnesses said after the prayers, people including a large number of youth staged protests and raised pro-freedom slogans. However, police and paramilitary CRPF swung into action and fired several tear gas canisters to disperse the protestors.
The youth offered stiff resistance and fought pitched battle with forces. Due to protests, traffic movement in several areas of Shaher-e-Khaas was disrupted. Locals said several youth were detained during the protests. However, there were no reports of any injuries till reports last come in.
Pertinently, the Chairman of Hurriyat (G) Syed Ali Geelani had called for an hour-long peaceful demonstrations after Friday prayers to protest against alleged police atrocities on youth in south Kashmir's Pulwama district
