Cleanliness drive held at KU

To mark the Earth Day celebrations, a cleanliness drive was held at University of Kashmir (KU) here.

The drive was organised by the Department of StudentsWelfare (DSW) and Department of Earth Sciences (Geoinformatics program) incollaboration with National Service Scheme (NSS), Proctorial Wing and Divisionof Environment and Hygiene, KU.

   

According to the organizers, the objective was to built environmental stewardship and help inreducing, reusing and recycling to decrease the amount of waste produced in thecampus and to work together in protecting the planet.

The drive was kick-started by Prof Talat Ahmad,vice-chancellor, KU from the lawns of VC`s secretariat.

Interacting with the faculty members and student volunteerson the occasion, Prof Talat said “It is our primary duty to keep oursurroundings and campus clean. Such activities should be promoted on a largerscale. Cleanliness is very essential for the sustenance of life on Earth.”

“We at Kashmir University have to be leaders for the societyto guide it on issues vital for its growth, development and well being. Wecannot live in isolation from the people and the society around us as they lookupon us for guidance and university should be ready to do that always, ever,”added Prof Talat who joined the student volunteers in the drive and went aroundthe campus.

Students showed enthusiasm in the cleanliness drive andappreciated the efforts of the University administration in keeping the campusclean and green. The students held placards that read ‘Make Everyday EarthDay’, ‘Think Green Live Green’ and ‘Cleanliness is the first step tohappiness’.
