Day after the Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary’s visit to Batamaloo area, a committee of senior officers from concerned departments was constituted to address developmental concerns and ensure coordinated execution of works at the city’s economic hub.
The decision was taken in ameeting of held under the chairmanship of DC. The meeting which was alsoattended by the representatives of the traders-cum-community association of thearea discussed the developmental concerns of Batamaloo and the means andmeasures required to address them.
It was noted that some ofthe major concerns of the area requiring immediate redressals include defunctdrainage and road congestion. It was said that proliferation of roadsidevendors encroaching all roads and streets in the area makes a significantcontribution to the latter.
The meeting was informedthat multi-departmental committee constituted to address its developmentalconcerns will visit the area to make a comprehensive assessment of itsshort-term requirements which will address its most urgent concerns and resultin a visible developmental redressal.
The Joint Commissioner SMCwas directed to submit a list of registered vendors in the area and makenecessary preparations for shifting them to designated vendor zones establishedin the area. The DC assured the representatives that the shifting will be donein accordance with a well-formulated plan allowing easier identification andpreventing proliferation of registered vendors.
Healso assured of the earliest possible execution of road-widening of Sector 6road which will be a significant remedial measure for traffic congestionexperienced in the area. Dr Shahid also assured of addressing other genuineconcerns of the area raised during his visit to the area as well as in themeeting.
Additional DeputyCommissioner KK Sidha will oversee implementation of approved developmentalworks to be taken up in the area whereas the Joint Director Planning MY Lonewill oversee financial requirements and expenditure for taking up the saidworks.
