Competition held for specially-abled

Cricketer Irfan Pathan and director tourism Kashmir Tasaduq Jeelani gave away prizes to participants of sports and painting competition, Buland Hosla, here on Thursday.

The event was organized by JW Productions, Hope Disability Centre in association with Arise Hyundai, and department of tourism Kashmir at Nigeen Club.

   

A statement said around 45 specially-abled persons participated in wheelchair race and painting competition. While Pathan was chief guest on the occasion Jeelani was guest of honor.

While appreciating organizers for holding the event Pathan said specially-abled persons were part of the society who need to be encouraged by holding such programs. He praised energetic talent of specially-abled persons of the Valley.

“It is a wonderful feeling to be in this part of the world which is known for its natural beauty,” said Pathan, adding the hospitality of the Valley was recognized worldwide.

Jeelani said there was a great need to have more programs for specially-abled persons to engage them in sports and other activities. He said though many events are organized for youth less events and programs are organized exclusively for specially-abled. “The need of the hour is to make them part of mainstream life and part of society. It is our responsibility so that they take part in functions,” he said.

On the occasion, the tourism department organized a special Qawali program and a Qawali was sung by known singer Shafi Sopori for entertainment of specially abled persons.

Later, the chief guest felicitated specially-abled persons who won Ist, 2nd and 3rd positions in wheel chair race and painting competitions. The authorities of JW Productions distributed prize money of Rs 3000 each among first three position holders.
