COVID19 | Decontamination tunnel operationalised at CD Hospital

Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) Thursday installed and operationalised the first decontamination tunnel at Chest Disease (CD) Hospital here.

The tunnel was installed at the entry of the hospital, adesignated COVID19 Center. The tunnel, equipped with a technology to spraychemicals, decontaminates every person who goes through it.

   

Srinagar Mayor Junaid Matoo said around 200 such moretunnels, designed by the SMC engineers, would be installed at hospitals, publicplaces and bank branches in coming days.

“We have intensified our fight against COVID19. Installationof this tunnel is one of major efforts in this direction,” he said.

The Mayor lauded the team of SMC engineers for designing thetunnel. He said Italian made four boom spray machine have also been pressedinto service, having capacity to disinfect 50 meter in radius within seconds.

Matoo said the SMC was putting all its efforts in the fightagainst COVID19. “We have sufficient stock of chemicals for next three months,”he said.

Dr Naveed Nazir Shah, Head of Department CD Hospital saidthe tunnel was going to be helpful.

SMC media in charge, Masrat said the Corporation has takenother measures as well to prevent the spread of the pandemic.

“SMC is sanitizing and sterilizing public places,quarantines homes, hospitals and red zone areas with a special recommendedchemical Quaternary Ammonium Chloride,” she said.

She said in the past two weeks, the SMC has used 2.5 lakhliters chemical water for disinfecting more than 60,000 locations in Srinagar.
