Curbs in Srinagar parts tomorrow; Mirwaiz placed under house arrest

Hurriyat (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was placed under house arrest on Monday in view of shutdown and Eidgah chalo called by the separatists on Tuesday.

Confirming his detention, a police official said that restrictions will be imposed tomorrow in parts of Downtown Srinagar as a “precautionary measure”.

He said restrictions will be imposed in areas falling under the territorial jurisdiction of Nowhatta, Rainawari, Khanyar, MR Gunj and Safa Kadal police stations.

The separatist leadership has called for a shutdown tomorrow to mark the death of Mirwaiz Muhammad Farooq and Hawal martyrs.

A spokesman of Awami Action Committee had earlier said that Mirwaiz will lead a ‘peaceful procession’ tomorrow from Jamia Masjid to Eidgah.
