Decade on, work on Batamaloo community hall yet to start

Despite passing of more than a decade, authorities have failed to construct a community hall at Batamaloo locality here.

Residents of Shah Faisalabad said more than a decade ago,government allotted land for the community hall and subsequently in 2008 thethen finance minister even laid foundation stone for the facility during afunction.

   

“But over the years the project construction has been passedfrom one department to another. Earlier the project was to be set up bySrinagar Development Authority (SDA), but later the construction was handedover to Srinagar Municipal Corporation,” said Habibullah Bhat, president ShahFaisalabad locality.

Another resident said some years later the SMC transferredland back to SDA for development of community hall. “But the construction workwas never taken up even as funds have been released for the project,” he said.

“We live in a congested area and we are in dire need of acommunity hall which could be used for functions and other social events work,”the local said.

Few months back a delegation of locals from the area met SDAauthorities who as per them assured of revisiting the case. “But expect formpromises we got nothing,” said the residents.

Riyaz Koul, assistant executive engineer SDA said “wehave formed detailed project report. We will take up the project thisyear,” Koul said.
