Degree holders of Fisheries Science staged protest here demanding direct recruitment in the Department of Fisheries.

Scores of Fisheries Science degree holders from Faculty of Fisheries Sher-i-Kashmir University of Agricultural Science and Technology (SKUAST)  assembled at Press Enclave and staged protest.

“It is a grave violation of recruitment rules in the Department of Fisheries. As per rule, 50 percent of posts must be filled through promotions and rest through direct recruitment in non-gazetted cadre. Unfortunately, only promotions are taking place and posts are being advertised,” the protesting degree holders said.

They said there has been no direct advertisement from the past decade, except 10 posts of Fisheries Development Assistant (FDA) in 2018.

“If over 150 promotions have taken place in the Department of Fisheries, then an equal number of posts should have been advertised in the interest of aspirants,” they said.

The protesting degree holders also said that the existing syllabus for the students is superficial and should be modified. “The existing syllabus is not core fisheries but superficial and it ought to be modified,” they demanded.
