Digging up Regal Chowk angers traders and shoppers alike

Digging up of road near Regal Chowk here has hampered vehicular and pedestrian movement.

Shopkeepers say the decision of authorities to startdrainage repairing work during peak of the season is costing them dearly.

   

Shoppers and the vendors in weekly Sunday market too saythat the timing of the works is affecting them badly.

“In this area scores of vendors used to put up their stalls,but now the whole area is occupied with construction material and machinery. Isell clothes and you can see how untidy has the dust made them. Who will buythese?” said Parvaiz Ahmed, a vendor.

The traders operating at Regal Chowk say the site which isnow occupied with machinery like dewatering pump and other material has takenthe sheen off the famous market.

“Shoppers usually avoid coming here as there is no parkingspace available. We took up the matter with authorities but so far nothing hasbeen done. Whether there is any repairs happening or not, Regal Chowk isoccupied with machinery and material,” said FarhanKitab, General Secretary,ReaglChokwk Traders Association.

“There are huge pits in the road. Recently we had to rescuea child who fell in one of the pits. Authorities could have avoided this messahead of the festive season.”

An official from city drainage circle said that the workongoing at Regal Chowk will be completed by June end.

“We have this one spot left at Regal Chowk whichshouldn’t take more time. We will make sure to speed up the work so that peoplewon’t face inconvenience,” the official said.
