Traders and manufacturers from Downtown areas decried lack of civic facilities.
The traders under the banner of Shahr-e-Khaas traders and manufacturers co-ordination committee on said various civic and trade-related issues were discussed in a meeting.
Nazir Ahmad Shah, chairman of the co-ordination committee said authorities have assured them that issues such as lack of car parking, dilapidated buildings, lack of urinals in old city markets, dog menace will be addressed soon, “but to no avail.”
“We brought it to the notice of the authorities that lack of public transport and especially evening transport causes huge inconvenience to common people. We have urged them to provide public transport till 9 pm. We are keeping our business open till late hours and giving 15 per cent discount on certain products for encouraging shoppers but need support from authorities,” Shah said.
Shah said during their meetings with authorities the traders and manufacturers have also highlighted the increasing dog menace in Downtown. “It is almost impossible for elders and children to move out during mornings and evenings,” he said.
Shah said pesky unscheduled power cuts and “exorbitant” electricity bills has been a common issue in Downtown. Among those present in the meeting included president of the co-coordination committee Bashir Ahmad Kenu, senior vice-president Irfan Ahmad Wani, secretary Waseem Ahmad Khan, a statement
