Scores of employees under the banner of employees joint consultative committee (EJCC) on Monday staged protest against “harassment and assault” on Kashmiris in Jammu and outside states.
The members of EJCC, an amalgam of various employees association including secretariat employees association, assembled at Press Colony here
“Kashmiris including employees, students and businessman are being harassed, their properties vandalized on daily basis. We won’t tolerate this. We want miscreants to be punished who are doing it at the behest of some political parties,” said Aijaz Khan, president EJCC.
“On Sunday, a petrol bomb was hurled at quarters of employees in Jammu. We strongly condemn this. What kind of curfew is in place in Jammu were goons are given a free hand,” he said.
The employees said that they believe in communal harmony and have always made safety of non-Kashmiris priority in the valley. They appealed to the governor and union home minister to intervene and ensure safety of Kashmiris living outside.
Meanwhile in another protest, J&K Clerical Staff Association staged a protest at Press Colony demanding protection to darbar move employees in Jammu. They condemned harassment and assault on employees in Jammu by miscreants.
“We demand protection to our employees. All the damage that has been inflicted on their properties should be immediately compensated,” said Mohammad Sultan, state president of the Association.
State president of the darbar Move (non-secretariat) employees’ federation Owais Wani said they won’t resume their duties until administration ensures safety of their families, putting up in official quarters in Jammu.
“Yesterday, around eight petrol bombs were hurled at the quarters of Kashmiri employees which has frightened our families. We can’t leave our families alone and join duties. Our families are not secure there,” Wani said.
