Gang of highway robbers busted in Srinagar, toy guns recovered: Police

Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday claimed to have busteda gang of thieves who robbed people, especially those travelling on thenational highway in Srinagar, and recovered toy guns from their possession.

“A gang of highwayrobbers and house breakers had let loose a reign of terror especially targetingnon local trucks and houses around national highway of Srinagar city extortingmoney/committing thefts masquerading as gunmen with dummy guns,” said a policespokesman, in a statement.

   

He said special teamswere constituted by SSP Srinagar, which were successful in apprehending theserobbers from bypass Srinagar along with dummy guns. 

The arrested robbers wereidentified as Sahil Ahmad Shah, Javaid Ahmad Shah and Imran Ahmad Shah – allresidents of Manganwaij Kanipora Srinagar.

The spokesman said thetrio are involved in a number of FIRs involving thefts/robbery in Srinagar city.

During investigation,huge recoveries involving Maurti Car, TV, Refrigerators, Washing Machine, Gascylinders, Cooking Gas Stoves, Crockery, Electronic Goods, vehicle Batteriesand 31 mobiles were made on the disclosure of the accused.

Along with these recoveriesthe instruments used by this gang for house breaking/robbery were alsorecovered. Further investigation in this regard is going on.
