GMC launches health awareness video campaign

Government Medical College (GMC’s) Srinagar’s Department of Community Medicine (SPM) launched public-health awareness video campaign by uploading cancer awareness promotional video online on Youtube and social media.

A first short five minute promotional video featured cancer survivors, oncologists and preventive medicine specialists highlighting need for awareness about cancers. 

   

Started as an initiative named ‘Kashealth’ in collaboration with a leading media house Associated Media, the department of community medicine has planned to prepare series of public health awareness video magazines highlighting prevalence of various health issues, its screening and early detection, management and preventive measures. 

“We plan to make awareness videos of major public health diseases and problems like cancers, diabetes, heart diseases, chronic kidney diseases, drug addiction, road traffic accidents, tuberculosis, other communicable, non-communicable and other life-style diseases enabling viewers to take personal decisions on prevention of risk factors and bring necessary life-style modifications like healthy eating, increased physical activities,” 

said Dr. S. Muhammad Salim Khan, head of department of community medicine, GMC Srinagar.   

The producers have solicited support from professionals, corporate houses, business enterprises and philanthropists to support the initiative under CSR and technical expertise enabling widespread awareness campaign through conventional and social media in local languages, “Feedback and suggestions can be mailed on kashealth201@gmail.com,” the organizers said in a statement.
