Governor inaugurates Learning Resource Centre at DPS Srinagar

Governor Satya Pal Malik inaugurated a newly constructed building of the Learning Resource Centre for the specially abled children at the Delhi Public School, Srinagar, here today.

Khurshid Ahmed Ganai, Advisor to Governor; Parvez Ahmad,Chairman J&K Bank; Vijay Dhar, Chairman, D.P. Dhar Memorial Trust,  Kiran Dhar Chairperson, Principal AlistairR.A Freese, Vice Principal  Shafaq Afshanwere present on the occasion.

   

Governor went round the building and inspected the teachinglearning facilities at the Centre. He was extended a warm welcome with a speechand a dance presentation by visually impaired children at the Centre.

In a statement, the school management said that the first ofits kind in the state has been established to impart skill training to thestudents with special needs and visually impaired to aid and facilitate theirrehabilitation.

Later Governor visited the Tiny Tots section of the Schoolwhere an impressive cultural programme was presented by children to commemorateSir Mohammad Iqbal Day.

Governor praised the talent and confidence of speciallyabled children and tiny tots and observed that to educate children is noblerthan any other cause. He stressed that it is our moral duty to guide andempower our children with good values and scientific knowledge.

Governor advised children to read and understand works ofpoets and philosophers like Sir Iqbal who believed in discovering and nurturingthe hidden  talent with in every bodywith love and perseverance.

Governor invited children to visit Raj Bhavan to understandits functioning. Governor was presented two books, “Luna Spark And The FutureTelling Clock” written by Touyiba  BintiJavaid, a class 7th student of DPS, Srinagar and ” The Crimson Curse” writtenby Shuja Tasleem, who also hails from Kashmir. Governor congratulated thewriters for their literary abilities and wished them success in all theirfuture endeavours.

The DPS statement said Governor, praised the efforts of DPDhar Memorial Trust for creating a school of such an enviable standard. It saidhe also extended his congratulations to Talha Arshad for his stellar acting inthe recently released movie Hamid, as well as Malaikah Gul Dev and Saira Zahoorwho have brought laurels to the school and state in recently held national andinternational sporting events. 

Meanwhile, Principal Alistair R.A Freese extended hisgratitude to the visiting dignitaries. “It makes our hearts swell with pridewhen luminaires of such stature praise the endeavours of the school. We willstrive to soar beyond the horizons we have already conquered.”

The Pro-Vice Chairman, Vijay Dhar  also thanked the dignitaries and resolvedthat “the school will single mindedly pursue its mission to create an inclusivemodel of education, where diversity will thrive, and the less advantaged willfind themselves accepted, cared for, and treated with dignity, and respect theydeserve. This resource center is a step in that direction.”
