Head priest Hazratbal shrine Ghulam Hassan Banday passes away

Head priest of Dargah Hazratbal shrine, Ghulam Hassan Banday passed away today after a brief illness.

 Ghulam Hassan Banday,son of late Nizam-ud-din Banday was one of the custodians of the holy relic ofProphet Muhammad (SAW) at Dargah Hazratbal shrine.

   

Banday displayed holy relic on many important occasions atthe Hazratbal shrine. He was also part of the group involved in the recitationof Khatmatul-Mauzamaat, Awraad-e-Sharief on various important occasions thatinclude Eid-e-Milad-un Nabi (SAW) and annual Urs of four rightly-guided Caliphsof Islam.

His death has been condoled by various religious and socialorganizations.

Jammu and Kashmir National Conference president Dr FarooqAbdullah and vice president Omar Abdullah has expressed profound grief onBanday’s demise.

The duo in their message said that the deceased was a piousperson and that his earnest services to the shrine will be remembered for allthe times to come. The duo prayed for peace to the soul of deceased andstrength to the grief stricken family to bear the inconsolable loss.

Member Parliament and senior NC leader Justice HasnainMasoodi also condoled the demise. Among others party general secretary  Ali Muhammad Sagar, additional generalsecretary Sheikh Mustafa Kamal, Nasir Aslam Wani, Mubarak Gul, Aga SyedRuhullah Mehdi, Tanvir Sadiq, Muhammad Syed Akhoon, Salman Ali Sagar, ImranNabi Dar have also condoled the demise of Ghulam Hassan Banday.

Former Chief Minister and President Peoples DemocraticParty  (PDP) Mehbooba Mufti also condoledBanday’s demise.

In her condolence message, Mehbooba hailed dedication withwhich Late Banday served the Hazratbal shrine while carrying forward the legacyof his forefathers.

“We mourn the sad demise of one of the most notablereligious scholars of Kashmir who earnestly served one of the sacred places ofthe state. As I express my sincere condolences to his family, I  express my full confidence that Late Banday’s children will carry forward his greatlegacy,” Mehbooba said.

Meanwhile, senior PDP leader and former MLA Hazaratbal,Asiya Naqash also condoled the demise.

Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Movement President Dr Shah Faesalhas condoled Banday’s demise. “He was a great religious scholar whoenlightened the devotees with principles of Islam,” he said.   

Advisor to the Governor and Chairman, J&K WakfBoard,  Khurshid Ahmed Ganai, has alsocondoled the demise.

Meanwhile, according to Banday’s son Muhammad Hashim Banday,the Chahrum will be held at 10 am on June 27 Thursday at their graveyard atDargah Hazratbal.
