High-level panel on Dal calls on Advisor Sharma

A high-level committee on Dal lake conservation constituted by J&K High Court Saturday called on Advisor to the Governor KK Sharma and discussed in detail the remedial measures to be undertaken for conservation of the water body.

The meeting discussed the measures being taken up forconservation of the Dal and also suggested several new scientific innovativeinterventions to be undertaken.

   

The meeting discussed rehabilitation measures for Daldwellers, augmentation of the STPs, scientific treatment of the waste,providing alternate routes to drainage system, undertaking capacity buildingmeasures of hoteliers, houseboat owners and enforcement measures.

It also discussed measures for declaring catchment area ofDal as eco-sensitive zone and also undertaking a massive awareness campaignabout making people aware about importance of conservation of the world famouswater body.

The committee headed by E Sreeedaran, includes NividetaHaran, MC Mehta and Mangu Singh, as its members.

Principal Secretary Housing and Urban Development DepartmentDheeraj Gupta, Vice-Chairman LAWDA Sajad Ganie and other senior officers werepresent in the meeting.
