Highway ban: RTI activists protest, seek revocation of order

Scores of J&K RTI movement activists held a protest against the government order that restricts civilian traffic movement on national highway twice a week.

Amid slogans against the order, the activists assembled atPress Enclave here, holding placards that read, “Why to snatch right to travelfrom Kashmiris”.

   

“No such order has been implemented anywhere in humanhistory and even countries like Israel have never imposed such restrictions oncivilian movement against Palestinians,” said Syed Nasrullah, senior RTIactivist.

He said people will face lot of problems in case of medicalemergency or any other case. “We demand revocation of this order,” he said.

The protesting activists said that education, economy andtourism will be badly affected due to the order. “Closure of the highway willinflict huge losses to fruit growers. Transport of other essential supplieswill also get affected,” said one of the activists.

The activists urged government to find an alternatemechanism which won’t affect the civilian movement. The government on Wednesdaypassed an order that restricts civilian traffic movement of Srinagar-Jammuhighway on Wednesday and Saturday, every week. The decision evoked sharpreactions from various political parties and business class.
