The medicos at SK Institute of Medical Sciences Soura got a shocker when Income Tax department shot them notices of not having paid the taxes.
A medico who has been religiously paying the tax said initially he couldn't believe his eyes that despite paying the tax why could any notices be served to him of being defaulter.
The moment the medico rushed to the Accounts department he realized that he was not alone but all his colleagues were sailing in the same boat. Sources said some officials in the Accounts department "by mistake forgot to get the tax amount deposited with the IT department."
Sources said the fuming SKIMS Faculty Forum called an emergency meeting which decided to pick up the matter with Director Dr Showkat Ali Zargar. Zargar is understood to have pacified the medicos. But, the medicos said no action was taken against the "erring officials".
"How come can the accounts department be so callous towards deposition of income tax? If this is poor state of Accounting towards taxation, their work on other fronts can only be imagined," remarked a senior medico.
When contacted an official said the matter has been amicably resolved. "Actually there was some misunderstanding. It happened many days back and I don't understand why the media is after this small issue now?" he asked.
