Kat walks on Dal banks

It was snowing heavily when Katrina reached the film sets in Kand Mohalla area of east City where she was to shoot with co-star Aditya Roy Kapoor on a wooden bridge in the lake interiors.

When harsh Himalayan cold and snowfall merge, life usually comes to standstill. But for Katrina Kaif it was time to set Dal Lake on fire with Fitoor. In the past three days of bad weather, Bollywood diva shared some charming moments with the breathtaking locales of Srinagar to keep her date.

It was snowing heavily when Katrina reached the film sets in Kand Mohalla area of east City where she was to shoot with co-star Aditya Roy Kapoor on a wooden bridge in the lake interiors.  “Given the rough weather conditions, the film crew was planning to suspend the shooting, but it was Katrina who volunteered to shoot pleading that the natural weather would add to the capturing moments,” said a police official who escorted the crew.

The shooting inside the lake continued for three odd days, after her initial appearance at historic Nishat Garden in the heels of Zaberwan Hills. Call it fate or coincidence but clouds arrived in the Valley, almost with Katrina’s landing as it has been mostly cloudy since shooting took off.

Though all these days, the locale kept changing,  what remained unchanged was Katrina’s white robe, which she was seen wearing before the camera, all the times for movie based on Charles Dickens’ novel Great Expectations.

But as for her fans it has been jostling each other trying to catch “Kat glimpse” as she continues to avoid public gatherings while Jammu and Kashmir Police is providing 3-tier security to the heartthrob.

Playing desi Estella, Katrina has been spending full daytime out on the sets of film by director Abhishek Kapoor. Aditya Roy Kapur is playing Pips while Rekha acting formidable Miss Havisham, jilted at the altar as a young woman and living on the edges of insanity since. Rekha started shooting around a week before Katrina’s arrival.

Though after “’90s hiccups”, for the past few years Bollywood fast rediscovered Kashmir with even Shah Rukh Khan shooting here, in the post flood situation Fitoor is the first to be filmed in the Valley.

The shoot was scheduled for October last year. But a month before that Srinagar was devastated by worst floods with the business hub and over 80,000 houses damaged in the summer capital alone while apart from roaring Jhelum, Dal waters too had risen to record heights of destruction.

After floods, rumor mills were rife that Fitoor would prefer Europe over Kashmir. It is however believed that Khawar Jamsheed a Line Producer with Bollywood persuaded the film crew to continue with its date in the dale, his homeland. A young producer running KJ Productions, Khawar has been host to some blockbusters like Rockstar and Jab Tak Hai Jaan shot extensively in Kashmir. Though Katrina too was in the SRK starrer, only Anushka accompanied him to the Valley and shot a song sequence in the Dal, a key attraction for tourists.

As tourism players continue to woo Kashmir as “all seasons tourist destination”, every season does wonders for the camera to a level that even Katrina couldn’t stay immune to enigma for captivating moments.

But after hectic shooting in the wet weather, Katrina Tuesday preferred to spend the day indoors, intermittently watching snowfall from her cozy room window as post-flood Kashmir struggles for a bounce back of tourism-bloom!
