Katrina in City for Fitoor

Historic Nishat Garden had some delightful moments to capture Friday when Bollywood diva Katrina Kaif started shooting for her upcoming Fitoor from this Mughal landmark –signaling a comeback of tourism bloom to this flood-ravaged City.

Katrina, who arrived in Kashmir two days ago, took off with her shooting schedule this morning. Braving the harsh Himalayan chill, the sizzler arrived at the Garden of Delight by around 8:00 AM and stayed back till sundown.

During the day on the sets on the heels of picturesque Zarberwan hills she was joined by Aditya Roy Kapoor who is romancing her in this movie based on Charles Dickens’ novel Great Expectations.

Katrina looked peculiar for her typical hair color resembling that of evergreen Rekha, who is believed to be playing character of “Begum” in the movie. Rekha’s Srinagar pictures had leaked onto social media some days back.

Today it was crowds jostling outside the 17th century Mughal Garden, which is closed for visitors during the winter chill, to get her glimpse.

But since January 28 when Katrina landed on the Srinagar International Airport veiling her face behind a cap she has been trying to be away from any public gatherings.

Playing desi Estella, she has been concentrating so much on the movie that it is believed to have distanced her from Ranbir Kapoor. Rumors mills are rife that the couple will have to do without each other for a while after Fitoor director Abhishek Kapoor declared the film’s set in Kashmir off-limits for Ranbir, presumably to be able to complete the shoot with little or no distraction.

Pip is played by Aditya Roy Kapur. Redoubtable Rekha on the other hand is seen perfectly cast as the formidable Miss Havisham, jilted at the altar as a young woman and living on the edges of insanity ever since.

Witnesses said Katrina’s first day of shooting went off smoothly with police security cover having played wonders for the film crew. “The shooting will continue for a few more days,” said a source in the Security Police and Katrina fan adding that there would be no compromise on her security.

For the past few years Bollywood has been fast rediscovering Kashmir as its favourite destination to shoot films with acclaimed filmmakers making a beeline to the breathtaking locales.

Owing to its natural beauty, Kashmir was an integral part of Bollywood films till ‘90s when due to political instability, the latter lost its connection with the Valley.

Over the past few years with improvement in situation, Bollywood gradually made a comeback to Kashmir, shooting superhits like Rockstar and Shah Rukh Khan-Katrina starrer Jab Tak Hai Jaan.

Fitoor shooting in Kashmir was to start in October last year, but as the fate had it ahead of the schedule this summer capital was devastated by September floods.

While in the post-flood era, Kashmir has been struggling for a bounce back as preferred tourism destination, Fitoor, as per tourism players, is the first major hope triggered by heartthrob Katrina!
