KPDCL explores measures to prevent electrocution accidents

To prevent accidents due to electrocution, the Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) is exploring new measures for safety of employees.

As a first step, the KPDCL has decided to sign an Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar   to devise “safe working procedures”.

   

A senior official in the Power department told Greater Kashmir that by collaborating with the NIT, they want to explore further avenues for the safety of employees.

“The NIT will provide us technological expertise to help save lives being lost in accidents,” he said.

The officials said that they are taking many other new steps also to plug in the loopholes.

Pertinently, Managing Director, KPDCL Aijaz Asad recently convened a meeting in this regard, in which NIT representatives also participated.

The officials present in the meeting said that a brainstorming discussion was held on the causes of accidents in the KPDCL and preventive measures.

They said a comprehensive Standard Operating Procedure (SoP), for safe working, prepared by the Safety Protocol Committee was reviewed and finalized at the meeting.

MD KPDCL Aijaz Asad told Greater Kashmir that during the meeting it was decided to enter into an MoU to facilitate collaboration of NIT and KPDCL towards devising safe working procedures and accident prevention.

“We wanted the intervention of academic research so that introduction of new innovative products can make the working more safe. We always want to go beyond the conventional methods of safety so that we can reach our zero accident goal,” Asad said.
