KPSS aghast over Govt’s ‘cold shoulder’ to Dussehra arrangements

Kashmiri Pandit Sangharsh Samiti on Thursday accused the state government of failing to make arrangements for celebration of Dussehra in summer capital of Srinagar.

In a statement since 2007 the KPSS said they have been organising Dushera celebrations in Kashmir to showcase composite culture of Kashmiri society.

“This is more of a peoples’ function than religious one and people from all walks of life would attend the function with zeal and zest,” said the statement.

The statement said this year KPSS could not organize celebrations of Dussehra as Government showed “cold response”. “Since the collapse of government in J&K, we sent number of communications to Raj Bhawan to give us time to discuss issues related to Kashmiri Pandits living in Kashmir Valley including the one to discuss celebrations of Dussehra. But we have been left disappointedand today we feel alienated by the system,” the statement said.

It said on one hand Raj Bhawan claims that their role was above politics and to bring people together, but on the ground, the policies of the government are “alienating people.”

The body said they received number of phone calls from people including those from majority community who expressed sadness over the information that “we could not organize Dussehra”.
