Lal Bazaar resident aghast over delay in drainage construction

Residents of Daga Kadal in Lal Bazaar on Wednesday said authorities have failed to construct drainage system and undertake road repairing in the area despite repeated assurances given to them.

A delegation of local from Siddique Colony said a team of officials from Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) had visited the area two months ago to undertake survey for construction of surface drain. The locals were also promised repair of the road which is in bad condition for more than two years.

“But it seems the authorities have now altogether shelved the works. We have visited authorities time and again to request them to start the work but our pleas have always been ignored,” said a local Muhammad Sayeed.

The delegation requested the higher up to direct for construction of drain and repair of road. “A mere shower turns entire stretch of this road leading from Oontabaw to Siddique colony to Umer colony into cesspool making it difficult for people to move out,” said another resident Noor Mohammad.

He said the area comprises of dozens of households. “We appeal to the authorities to issue directions for ending our miseries,” said another local.

He said whenever they approached the authorities they were given “lame excuses” and had to return disappointed. “Sometimes we are told that funds are not available and at other times the authorities avoid us saying the survey will be undertaken afresh,” the resident said.
