LalChowk traders propose weekend closure of shops

Joint Traders Coordination Committee city centre Residency Road has urged the administration that instead of its order to close 50 percent of markets, it would be better to close shops on weekends.

“This could save the business community from financial agony,” they said.

A statement issued by the committee which is an amalgam of a number of traders association existing right from Polo View Market to LalChowk covering all markets read: “All markets shall remain closed and there will be no transaction on all Saturdays and Sunday of the weekend, during the rest of the days of the week markets will open strictly from 11 to 5 pm in the evening.”

“The government has imposed restrictions in view of the worsening situation due to COVID. The government has issued order for keeping the shops open either on odd even basis or one side to remain closed and other side of the market to remain open on alternate days,” it said.

“While issuing this order the government has not taken traders committees into confidence and sought their views while issuing this order,” they said.
