Lawyers suspend work to protest killing of advocate Babar Qadri

A day after advocate Babar Qadri was shot dead by unidentified gunmen, lawyers at High Court and Srinagar court suspended work to express solidarity with the victim’s family.

The High Court Bar Association (HCBA) had given a call asking lawyers to abstain work for one day. It demanded the perpetrators of the crime be brought to book at the earliest.

While condemning the killing, the Bar expressed grief and prayed for peace to the departed soul and courage to the bereaved family to bear the loss.

Several lawyers held a condolence meeting via virtual mode and prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul.  Many lawyers took to social media to remember Qadri. “Syed Babar Qadri is no more. My brother like senior who encouraged…supported…motivated…his juniors to practise sincerely and without any fear. How to express my sadness…how to express my emotions…I am not finding words,” Ruhi Gull, a lawyer wrote on Facebook.

“Advocate Qadri was a noble soul. He was a professional lawyer and used to deliver services free of cost to poor and needy. Youngsters used to take his time for learning about court proceedings. He would always teach them as a kind guide and loving elder brother,” said advocate Marouf Khan.
