A Lashkar-e-Toiba militant was arrested on Wednesday during a search operation in Rajbagh area of Srinagar, the police said.
Identified as Danish Haneef Wani, a resident of Azad Basti,Natipora Srinagar, he had joined Lashkar on February 2 this year. On the sameday, a picture showing him wielding a gun surfaced on social networking sites.The picture described him as Lashkar militant code named Abu Dujana.
“Acting on a specific lead, we launched a search operationin Rajbagh area and caught the militant,” a police officer said.
He said Danish was involved in the loot of weapons atCongress MLC Muhammad Muzaffar Parray’s J-37 government quarters at JawaharNagar on 30 December 2018, the officer said.
“Danish is being questioned for his exact role in the weaponloot,” he said.
A statement issued by the police said Danish is involved inFIR number 73/2018 under section 395 RPC, 7/25 arms act, 18, 19, 38, 39 ULPAact registered at police station Rajbagh, Srinagar regarding the weapons lootincident.
Soon after Danish left his house, his family had madefervent appeals to him to return. Danish had performed Umrah in 2018 and wasworking at a private shop to earn his living.
