Mirwaiz denounces disallowing Friday prayers at Jamia Masjid

Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq denounced barring of congregational Friday prayers at historic Jamia Masjid in Downtown on the occasion of Mehraj-e-Alam (SAW).

In a statement Mirwaiz said that “disallowing thepeople from offering congregational prayers at the grand masjid, the spiritualcentre of people, where masjlis-e-Toba-e-Istigfaar was to be held, has deeplyhurt religious sentiments of hundreds of people hurt.”

   

“Repeatedly locking down the grand mosque isunacceptable. While entire Muslim Umaah is observing Mehraj-e-Alam withreligious fervour, thousands of Kashmiri people were deprived of theirreligious right and stopped from attending the traditional religious event atJamia Masjid as stringent curbs were in place amid heavy deployment offorces,” he said.

Meanwhile, Hurriyat (M) spokesman condemned the use of forceagainst the inmates at Central Jail terming the move as “ultimatehighhandedness on part of the jail authorities.” “Assault againstinmates has raised the apprehensions that prisoners were living under a greatrisk and life threat to them,” the spokesperson added.
