MMU panel for formulating model Nikahnama

Members of the panel formed by Mutahida Majlis-e-Ulema to create awareness about women’s rights and issues across Kashmir, held a meeting at Mirwaiz Manzil under the chairmanship of MMU patron Mirwaiz Umar Farooq.

Members from various NGOs who are part of the panel alsoparticipated in the meet and put forth their suggestions.

   

MMU spokesperson in a statement said the meeting wasconvened as a follow-up to the earlier meeting held on July 9 where issuesregarding women’s property rights, domestic violence, and issues related todivorce and its consequences on women were discussed

“It was decided in the meeting that to create massawareness and mobilize people, Friday khutbas and sermons and other religiousgatherings from the coming month will be dedicated to highlighting these issuesin the light of Islamic teachings,” the statement said.

“It was also decided that a model Nikahnama will beframed to educate both men and women about their rights and duties in amarriage and also clearly state others terms of marriage,” it said. 

Those who participated in the meeting included Mufti NazirAhmed Qasmi, Moulana Showkat Hussain Keng, Moulana Fayaz Ahmed Zaroo(Humsafar Marriage Council),  Moulana Muhammad Mukarim, Mehran Khan,Mudasir Iqbal Mir, Syedur Rehman Shams, Mantasha Bashir, Safeena Nabi, RifatAndrabi, and Farah Zaidi besides others.

“Another panel formed by Mutahida Majlis Ulema on theissue of drug abuse, a very serious issue confronting the society will bemeeting early next week to follow up and look into ways and means in thisregard,” it said.
