Mominabad residents decry delay in construction of drainage system

Residents of Mominabad Batamaloo locality here have decried inordinate delay in construction of drainage system in the area.

“Despite passing two decades, our area is without drainage system. After rains, our area turns into a cesspool”, said Muhammad Shafi, a resident of Mominabad here.

“The adjacent localities at Bemina, where new colonies were settled only few years back, have got drainage system. But we are craving for the basic facility from past 25 years”, he said.

The residents said that they have been visiting all the concerned departments from years together. “But nothing has been done so far. Our houses are on verge of collapse due to water accumulation. We have to walk through stinking water to reach main road. Children and elders are worst sufferers,” said Mushtaq Ahmed, a local.

“From lane 8 to 17 of Mominabad Batamaloo, there is no drainage system from decades now, we even talked to the officials who look after the drainage system of city but nothing has been done so far,” he said.

The residents said at adjacent lane three at Mirabad, the drainage has been left incomplete. “Due to dilapidated road, we face problems to venture out. We urge authorities to macadamize the lane at the earliest,” said Riyaz Ahmad a resident.

Executive engineer Sewage and Drainage, Srinagar circle, Azad Ahmed said, “we are unable to start work on the drainage due to lack of funds.”

“I know the residents there are suffering and they are following the issue thoroughly, but unless we have funds we can’t do anything. We have even made detailed project report for constructing the drainage network. We have put forth demand for the funds. As soon as we receive the required funds, we will start the work”, he said.
