Naik Mohalla Shivpora reels under severe potable water shortage

Residents of Naik Mohalla Shivpora are up in arms against the erstwhile Public Health Department and now Jal Shakti Department for pushing them to brink by depriving them of drinking water in times of massive snowfall and cold conditions.

According to Behbood Committee of Naik Mohalla Shivpora, the area is facing severe shortage of potable water for last five years.

“We have been requesting the higher ups of PHE department like JEs, AEEs, XENs and CEs during these years to redress our major concern but they have been pushing us from pillar to post without any resolution,” said Bashir Ahmad Bhat, President of Behbood Committee.

As per Bashir, who led a delegation a residents seeking resolution of potable water crisis, the issue of shortage of water commenced when Shivpora area was bifurcated from Nishat main line and intertwined with Tangnar supply few years back.

“The mohallas like Iqbal Colony, Sonwar, Indra Nagar, Batwara receive constant supply of potable water while we at Naik Mohalla Shivpora are being deprived of drinking water for frivolous reasons known PHE officials,” said Bashir Ahmad.

The members of delegation said that Commissioner Secretary Jal Shakti Department had already issued instructions to engineers to supply potable water but inter-departmental frivolous hassles impede the directions issued by the top officials.

“We have to either get tankers or big cans of water for drinking purpose when our neighbouring mohallas enjoy uninterrupted supply,” they said.
