No 99 held: Police

Police said the arrest of No 99 was a major breakthrough for the police as the accused was wanted in many car thefts.

Police on Sunday claimed to have arrested three car lifters including one of them codenamed No 99 from Lal Bazar locality and recovered four vehicles and some batteries from their possession.

Confirming the recovery, SP Hazratbal, Rayees Muhammad Bhat said the arrest of No 99 was a major breakthrough for the police as the accused was wanted in many car thefts. “He was famous among thieves as 99.”

 “A police team led by Station House Officer Lal Bazar, Syed Mubarak was constituted to probe into the matter… Eventually the team made the breakthrough with the arrest of three car lifters and recovery of vehicles including Santro, Vegnor, Auto Rikshaw, bike  and some vehicle batteries,” the SP said.

He said all the vehicles were stolen from Lal Bazar area and its missing report were lying at Police Station there. 

Meanwhile SHO Nigeen Abdul Hamid said a burglary case in Saderbal locality was solved within three hours of the theft.  He said the thieves had stolen a genset worth Rs 70,000 from house of Professor Wajahat Amin Shah.
