No instructions issued for closure of NIT: Srinagar administration

The Srinagar administration has reiterated that it did not direct closure of any educational institution in the city.

“We put it on record that the reason cited forsuspending classwork in our notice is a case of miscommunication where NITSrinagar mistook advice for watchfulness issued to all educational institutionsin the district in view of the prevailing situation for an instruction tosuspend classwork,” the Srinagar administration said in a statement.

   

“The decision to suspend classwork is the institute’sown. No instructions for suspension of classwork or closure of the institutewere issued from the district administration. DC Srinagar Dr Shahid IqbalChoudhary speaking in reference to it said no advice or instructions wereissued for closing the institute or any other educational institution in thedistrict. Only an advice for being watchful was issued to heads of allinstitutions considering the prevailing situation in the district,” thestatement said.

“The transportation was arranged upon requests from theNIT management which had received requests in this regard from distressedparents of students,” it added.

Meanwhile, the statement said the NIT Srinagar has withdrawnthe said notice and regretted the error. “It has also sought to put onrecord that the institute has prior plans of vacations beginning next weekstressing that the plan preceded the beginning of the prevailing situation andshould not be attributed to it. It is notable that colleges across the Kashmirdivision are already closed being on summer vacations since August 1.”
