Now, SMC operationalises decontamination tunnel at SMHS Hospital

Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) Monday installed and commissioned decontamination tunnel at SMHS Hospital here.

The tunnel was installed outside Emergency Ward. It sprayschemical water to decontaminate every person who goes through it.

   

The Corporation has intended to install more such 200tunnels across Srinagar in coming days, at public places, markets, quarantinehomes, and hospitals.

Srinagar Mayor Junaid Matoo said the SMC will installanother decontamination tunnel at SKIMS in an attempt to contain spread of thedeadly virus,.

SMC CommissionerGazanfar Ali said efforts were on to take every possible measure against thedeadly infection.

“Today, we are equippedwith modern technology, and chemicals recommended by World Health Organizationare being used in disinfection process. Our engineers are also coming up withinnovative measures,” he said.

He said the SMC was committed to take maximum measures inminimum time to defeat COVID19.

SMC Joint Commissioner, Syed Abul Qasim said the Commissionhas used more than 2.5 lakh liter chemical water for disinfecting more than60,000 locations in Srinagar in the past few weeks. “We are ready to meet anyexigency,” he said.

The medicos and para medical staff at SMHS expressed delightover installation of the tunnel. “This is a welcome step and a significantdevelopment to fight coronavirus,” said a doctor.

Another doctor said people, hospital workers, patients andattendants, can get sanitized instantly while entering or leaving the hospitalpremises.

The concept of these tunnels was first adopted by countrieswhich have been battling the coronavirus for last few months.

The SMC has taken measures to control the outbreak of theCOVID19 pandemic by sanitizing all the areas where people were found to bepositive to the disease. Special focus has been laid over the area includingthe quarantine facilities and hospitals.

The Corporation has already made operation the tunnels atChest Disease Hospital and Lala Ded Hospital.
