Parents of students enrolled in Presentation Convent Higher Secondary School have demanded rescheduling of the Term-I exams of the students after Eid-ul-Fitr.
As per the date sheet notified by the school, the exam for class 1st primary to class 10th will commence from June 03 and will end on June 17.
However, the parents of the students termed the date sheet as “anti-students” saying that holding exams in the holy month of Ramadhan was “unjustified since students of higher classes fast during the holy month”. “There is no harm if the exam is rescheduled after Eid,” said a group of parents.
As per the date sheet, students will get a break of only two days, June 05 and June 06, in view of the Eid. “But the exact date will be decided as per the appearance of moon. How can the school management decide about it,” the parents said.
The parents have also submitted a representation to the school principal asking the management to postpone the exams till Eid.
“The decision to hold exams in Ramadhan has put all of us in a fix. It is beyond our understanding why the school management has chosen this period for exams,” reads the representation submitted to the school.
The parents said it was not practically possible for students to prepare for the exams during fasting. “We are not against the academic calendar of the school but the feasibility of holding exams during this month of fasting should be taken into consideration,” it reads.
The principal of the school was not available for her comments. The private secretary of the principal said they haven’t received any representation. “The parents should meet the principal. Let them submit a representation or meet as a delegation to put forth their demand,” he said.
